Good nutrition during pregnancy and breastfeeding is important for both you and your baby. Eating well will ensure that you both get the energy and nutrients you need for good health and can help you to manage your weight both during and after the pregnancy. Modifying your diet can also help to manage some of the common problems of pregnancy including nausea, heartburn and constipation.

During pregnancy energy requirements are raised above normal (although not as much as many people think!) and the requirement for some nutrients is also increased, particularly iron, calcium and folate.

If you are planning a pregnancy, it is a good idea to review your diet to ensure that you are following a healthy eating plan which will meet the needs of you and your baby. It is also recommended that you have an adequate intake of folate (from food or a supplement) for at least 1 month prior to falling pregnant and during the first 3 months of your pregnancy to reduce the risk of spina bifida in your child.

Whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy, we can help you to ensure your diet is meeting the nutrition needs of you and your baby. For more information or to book at appointment, phone 9415 4845 or email reception@nnd.com.au
