Iron deficiency occurs when there is a depletion of iron stores in the body and can result in a decrease in the levels of haemoglobin in the blood. This condition is known as anaemia and its symptoms include tiredness, breathlessness, loss of appetite and headaches.

Iron deficiency is a common nutritional deficiency and those at most risk include pre-menopausal women, women who are pregnant, vegetarians and athletes.

Taking iron supplements is not recommended, however, unless a diagnosis of iron deficiency has been made following a blood test, as too much iron can also cause problems.

If you have been diagnosed with iron-deficiency anaemia, we can help you to improve your iron levels by maximising the amount and absorption of iron in your diet. Whether you are a vegetarian or a meat eater we will tailor an eating plan to suit your needs and lifestyle. For more information or to book at appointment, phone 9415 4845 or email reception@nnd.com.au
